The choir was formed in 1983 with just seven members and today has a membership of around 60. The Choir enables serving and retired Police officers and members of the Special Constabulary, together with their friends from outside the service, who have joined by invitation, to sing together in a Male Voice environment and raise funds for charitable and other worthy causes.
Since its humble beginnings, the Choir has established a large musical repertoire and given many concerts. It is proud to have helped raise over £200,000 for charitiable and community projects in Shropshire, Wales and the West Midlands since it was founded. The Choir performed in the first and second Festivals of Police Music at the Albert Hall in London and took part in the World Choir in Cardiff in May 1993. The West Mercia Constabulary Band and the Shrewsbury Police Choir have given a number of concerts together over the years, culminating in combined massed choirs and band concerts at Birmingham Symphony Hall in 1996 and 1998. The Choir has also joined with local bands and choirs to raise funds for local charities such as Hope House Respite Home, the Shropshire and Mid Wales Hospice and the Macmillan Nurses. In April 2000, the choir joined with two other local choirs at Shrewsbury Music Hall, when over £2000 was raised for the benefit of the Shropshire and Mid Wales Hospice and the British Diabetic Association. In May 2000 the choir took part in a combined massed choir, band and orchestral concert at the National Indoor Arena at Birmingham.

The choir has a large musical repertoire. In May 2008 it toured Scotland, giving concerts in Kilmarnock and Kilwinning on behalf of cancer charities, raising almost £3000

2001 saw the production of the Choir’s first CD “On The Beat”.
This was followed in 2003 with a second CD “Down By The Riverside”
